Description
This sub-network focuses on investigating carbon dioxide (CO2) and energy fluxes within the Caatinga biome, one of the most important regions of northeastern Brazil in terms of biodiversity and unique ecosystems.
The Torres sub-network is made up of a partnership between several universities and research institutes, including the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Federal University of Campina Grande, Federal University of Pernambuco, Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, Federal University of Agreste de Pernambuco, Federal University of Western Pará and the National Institute of the Semi-Arid Region.
This group has advanced equipment for monitoring environmental variables, such as turbulent flow sensors, scintillometers and soil gas measurement, as well as specialized laboratories equipped for data processing and treatment, and a laboratory for sensor calibration.
The sub-network also has strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the Superintendence for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene). In collaboration with the MMA, the group coordinates the development of PAB-Brazil 2024, including the national diagnosis and publication of the document. SUDENE contributes to the improvement of the socio-environmental data platform of the Caatinga and Desertification Observatory.
In addition, the sub-network develops projects with funding from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Paraíba State Research Support Foundation (FAPESQ), strengthening research and monitoring in the region.
Currently, Torres de Fluxos has 21 researchers, including 2 post-docs, 13 doctoral students and 6 master's students.
