Description

The Data Management and Modeling Research Network (GEDAE) is dedicated to a holistic approach to understanding and predicting environmental dynamics in the Caatinga biome. The work of this network ranges from data collection and management to advanced modeling and predictive analysis, integrating various areas of knowledge such as statistics, environmental modeling, remote sensing, robotics and high-performance programming.

GEDAE focuses on providing analytical and technological support to the research networks of the National Observatory on Water and Carbon Dynamics in the Caatinga Biome (OndaCBC), with the aim of understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change, as well as promoting the conservation and sustainable use of natural assets in this important ecosystem. In addition, this network actively contributes to the climatic and environmental characterization and diagnosis of the region, providing crucial information for decision-making and the implementation of management and preservation policies, and actively collaborates in combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.

The GEDAE network brings together a diverse group of multidisciplinary specialists from the country's main teaching and research institutions. The GEDAE network is dedicated to integrating knowledge and analytical tools to understand, predict and respond to the environmental and climatic challenges faced by the Caatinga biome. The GEDAE network has led and participated in a number of projects, including computer platforms for generating regional databases (Umbrella; SAPS), computer models for representing the Caatinga ecosystem (Evapotranspiration; Interception; Phenology; Primary Productivity; Land cover classification) and monitoring environmental variables.

GEDAE works actively with field teams to collect data and implement environmental instrumentation for real-time monitoring. In addition, this network includes researchers linked to the Caatinga and Desertification Observatory, which has been working on the Brazilian Action Plan to Combat Desertification and Mitigate the Effects of Drought (PAB-Brazil), contributing to the characterization and diagnosis of climate, environment, demographics and socio-economics for the entire national territory.

The joint efforts of the OndaCBC networks have brought significant advances in the understanding of water dynamics, the carbon cycle, desertification and the impacts of climate change in the Caatinga biome. The interdisciplinary and collaborative approach has been essential for tackling the complex challenges related to climate, environment and sustainability in the region. The GEDAE network is committed to continuing to advance research and contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable future for the Caatinga and its communities.

Currently, the network has 4 researchers: 1 post-doc, 2 doctoral students and 1 master's student.
